The simplicity of water-based steam cleaning can be appealing, but repeated use of too much super heated water can lead to risks of residual staining, mobilisation of salts and corrosion of hidden particles of Iron within some limestone surfaces.

Steam can penetrate the small cracks and fissures on the surface of the limestone.
This does clean the limestone, but will also embed water into the surface.
Repeated cleaning using a steam cleaner can activate salts and weaken the stone over time. This can also lead to spalling or fragmentation of the surface.

Surfaces that have been treated with an impregnating sealers can also be compromised. Steam cleaning does not normally remove the impregnating sealer, however repeated use can expose new fissures and capillaries within the stone. Is Your Bathroom Fan Venting Properly?

air ventilation\, bathroom renovation, home renovation

homebuildingpro's avatarHome Builders Pro

Ventilation is an important factor for our health. Removing unpleasant smells, smoke and steam is a necessity for our comfort and reduces the risk of respiratory diseases and allergies.

Condensation control (which occurs at a humidity above 75%) contributes to limiting the process of humidification and aging of the premises and preventing the formation of mold. To help against this, it may be a timer or hydrostatic system including the fan at humidity over 70%.

Moisture, mold on the walls, difficult breathing, soot content, unpleasant odors – these are clear signs of lack or insufficient ventilation in the premises. This can cause allergy, asthma or respiratory and circulatory disorders.

A properly built and efficient ventilation system delivers fresh air while removing used and stagnant air from the premises.

All floors are subject to lots of traffic and sometimes spills and accidents happen resulting in a stain. With floor coverings like carpet, most stains can be removed using a solution of white vinegar and borax. Mix them together and rub into the stain and then when dry, vacuum up the mixture and the stain should be gone. Concrete polishing companies on The Gold Coast suggest it is not so easy with other types of flooring

Asphalt tiles

Stains and war and tare can often be removed from asphalt tiles using a solution of 1 cup of fabric softener in half a bucket of water. Apply with a mop without flooding the floor and use steel wool with floor wax to remove any stubborn stains

Brick flooring

Brick flooring is porous so needs to be treated with a good surface sealer and waxed.

Vacuum it at least once a week…
