These days property owners are spoilt for choices when it comes to timber flooring. Thanks to the manufacturer’s R&D to come up with very creative materials (both natural and synthetic) to resemble natural timber.

Hard Wood Flooring

This is the traditional type of timber flooring where the timber strips / panels / planks are solid and homogeneous wood, completely adhered to the existing floor piece by piece to give a very hard firm feel. The wood grains (depending on the type of wood) are as natural as it gets.

The process of installing is more labour intensive depending on the design and orientation of the lay patterns

Pros – Natural feel, can be grinded and re-stained.

Cons – Poor resistance to moisture, if installed on the ground floor a water proofing layer is highly recommended, susceptible to termite attacks. Expensive

Wood Cabinet Pulls

The more spaces I design, the more I’m convinced every room needs something in it that?s made of wood. It’s the texture and warmth of wood that gives a room depth and character and has become a necessary ingredient in my eyes.

Over the weekend, I linked to a houseboat renovation that I love and on closer inspection I noticed the kitchen’s cabinet pulls were wood. A wood cabinet pull looks especially good on painted cabinetry when it’s tied in to the wood tones in the floor, countertop, or room accents. It struck me that wood cabinet pulls and knobs are a gorgeous alternative to metals and one I won’t overlook in the future.
